So, you're wondering what the hell this is supposed to be, eh?

Well, first, allow me to introduce myself. I am Waffnuffly, an obscure person who maps for the Unreal community somewhat, who writes a huge fiction based on the universe from Unreal 1, and an all-around wonderful, hard-working, devoted, bipolar, insane, affable guy. Feel free to disagree, I don't care, but I doubt anyone will deny that I'm insane. Well, at least, on THIS site I am insane. I send my Stupid Energy(TM) here, while I send my Serious Energy(TM) and all my hard work to my fiction site.

Well, enough crap, now that we know who the semi-madman behind EXU is, let's talk about EXU itself!
  • First off, forget everything you know about how to map and play a standard single player campaign. EXU follows no rules; not even its own rules. Seriously.
  • I remember hearing somewhere that you only should fight up to four enemies at once in a SP map. HAHAHA! You'll fight up to 300 at once in one map.
  • Speaking of maps, pretty much EVERY map is from the original Unreal. I didn't make any new maps, I simply ransacked all the existing ones!
  • You don't need to collect ammunition or health. It automatically recharges (unless you're an asshat who refuses to use Excessive mutators. More on this later when I discuss installation and all). You get 300 health, about 2x more ammo than you've ever had before, and it usually recharges 5 points for every 0.6 seconds. Good deal, huh? Thank Mr. Pants for his generosity. However, you're not invincible... at least, not when you're being raped by a squad of Fucker Brutes or shot to death by Turbo Krall Elite or spanked by MicroTitans or whatnot. But don't fret, you get quite a lot of firepower. QUITE A LOT.

  • Badass Turbo Krall who don't
    give a damn about rules.

Some poor pupae bastard getting owned.
  • While you may not be able to fire THAT many rockets at once (that was using playersonly and summon commands, muwahah), you sure as hell can fire off quite a few pretty darn fast. In addition, ALL of your weapons are turbo-charged: Mr. Pants is, again, the one to thank for this. This is EXCESSIVE Unreal afterall, based on EXCESSIVE OVERKILL.
  • Let's go through a breif list of the weapons before we go into more detail about them. You have at your disposal, right when you start a map (depending on what mutators you have selected--more later), the Excessive Enforcers, Translocator, Bio Rifle, Shock Rifle, Pulse Gun, Ripper, Flak Cannon, Rocket Launcher, and Sniper Rifle. All of these weapons should come in handy in certain situations.
  • Be mindful of what you're using, though! Unlike in Excessive UT, your weapons DO inflict self-damage, so be sure to watch where you point that rocket launcher after you charge up six rockets in a tight circle in less than two seconds with a pissed off Fucker Brute charging at you at 600 miles per hour!
  • With the great firepower comes a great enemy to use it against. EXU is LOADED, and I mean LOADED with all kinds of modified Unreal pawns. Literally, there are at least 100 enemies in each map (with the exception of maps like EXU-ExtremeEnd and EXU-Passage and other really small maps). The best part is, these aren't just your standard Skaarj and Krall and other miscellaneous creatures, these are TURBO-CHARGED, PSYCHOTIC EXU PAWNS!
  • Some pawns remain the same, but come in hoards, such as Skaarj Warriors of various sorts, while other pawns, such as Tentacles, Krall Elite, Pupae, Brutes, etc. come in all shapes and sizes. And I mean it. There are variations of Tentacles from the normal sized Tentacles (all with at least 100 health, however, rather than 64 or so) to the massive Sky Tentacles, which are usually 10-15 times their normal size, have at least 600 health but often 900 or more, and fire projectiles as powerful as Excessive Rockets. More details will come in the EXU-ReadMe and the Pawns section of this site.
  • One thing you may find hard to believe is that the massive variety of creatures involved does not constitute the need for a spearate .u file! If any pawns need special scripting, they are saved in the MyLevel package of that level. All pawns are simply normal pawns that have been heavily modified!

  • Various enemies all in one area, ready to kick ass.

A Fucker Brute, the Trademark of EXU.
  • Now, where would EXU be today if it weren't for these big, fat, stupid, incrdibly fast and strong, powerful Fucker Brutes? NOWHERE! Well, actually, it would still exist, but would lack Teh Funney. These guys are the epitome of what makes EXU crazy, and the strangest part about that is the fact that that they fire no projectiles. They simply ZOOM right up to you and commense whacking you with their fists, going "WHA WHA WHA" as they do so. It's quite entertaining, especially when you flak them to death and they gib all over the place with a loud "BREEEEEEEURGH!"
  • While Fucker Brutes are the cheif meelee grunts, there are also scattered versions of Fucker class pawns, such as Fucker Merceneries and Fucker Krall. All Fucker class pawns are extremely fast, fat, strong, and have no ranged weapons. I call them "Fucker" class because, essentially, they run up and rape you. That is, unless you can keep them away, which is unlikely. You just have to endure their punches and wait for them to die at the hands of your weapons.
  • Be careful, though, and remember to NEVER use a weapon with splash damage against a Fucker! They will be on you so fast you'll barely be able to switch weapons in time, even if they're 8192 grid units away from you. If you're charging up rockets, by the time you release, you will just blow yourself to bits right in its stomach, and it will just stare at you and laugh, then go wander around.
  • EXU also has a great slew of music included (or excluded, your choice. See the Files site). Some of the music is from UT, barely any is from Unreal 1 (not because I don't like it, the Unreal music just doesn't fit!). However, much of the music is brand new, or at least, taken from other mods / sources. If I find out who made what track, they will be credited, but if I can't figure out where something came from, well, I'll just leave a note of what a great tracker the guy who did it is.
  • Not only do you get new music in EXU, but there are also a load of in-game... 'surprises'... that you will probably NEVER expect (unless you read all the crap I mention in IRC to my Elite Beta Legionnaries). I won't go into detail, but some of it involves sound effects, some involves scripted sequences, some of it... well, I don't know what the hell I did.
  • Finally, EXU has hidden Bonus Maps. Well, they aren't REALLY hidden, you can be a bastard all you want and select the maps via Oldskool's menu (more covered in installation section). But, if you play EXU straight, you will sometimes stumble across a trigger which activates a bonus portal. This is what happens. (1) You usually end up tripping the bonus portal trigger by shooting a select object where the trigger is. When you hit one, (2), a loud sound effect occurs and some random, senseless message appears. That's your cue that (3) when you finally beat the map, instead of going to the next map instantly, you will load the bonus map. After you beat the bonus level, you will (4) load the next map that you originally would have loaded. To make things simple, the first bonus portal is in NyLeve. Shoot the waterfall. That's the kind of thing to look for!

  • Look at all the stuff I'm doing at once. Jeeze.

Thanks for taking the time to read all this stuff. Well, actually, I don't give a damn either way, but it will help you if you don't know WTF I'm on about when I talk about the mod, or if you're too lazy to read the ReadMe file.
